| The eXtyles® Menu Appears on the Add-ins Tab, but the eXtyles Ribbon Is Missing (Word 2007 and 2010)
For all users of Word 2007 or 2010, eXtyles should be accessible via an eXtyles tab on the Word ribbon
rather than as an item on the Add-ins tab. If the eXtyles tab does not appear, it is usually due to
interference with Word's Normal template. Please follow these steps to correct the problem:
(1) Close Word
(2) Navigate to the directory containing the template Normal.dotm, which is usually
"C:\Users\[USER]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates"; if the template is not there, its location may
be found through the following path:
Office Button → Word Options → Add-Ins → Manage:
Templates → Go... → Templates → Attach...
(3) Delete Normal.dotm (note that this may reset some user preferences)
(4) Restart Word
These steps should resolve the issue. If they do not, the user should next determine whether there was a clean
uninstall of eXtyles before installation of the most recent build.
To determine this, navigate to the Word Startup directory, which should be located at "C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office12\STARTUP". This directory should contain a number of eXtyles templates, including "icehook.dotm",
"omml.dot", and possibly "icehook.dot". If none of these files appear in this directory, then please navigate to the
Startup directory through the Word interface:
Office Button → Word Options → Advanced → General → File Locations... →
File types: → Startup
For Word to load the eXtyles tab, the Word Startup directory should contain "icehook.dotm".
If a previous uninstall of eXtyles left "icehook.dot" in the Startup directory, that can cause the Add-ins
tab to display the eXtyles menu, overriding the eXtyles tab.
If the Startup directory does contain both "icehook.dot" and "icehook.dotm", please delete "icehook.dot"
with Word closed. Once Word is reopened, the eXtyles tab should be displayed. Note that if you delete
"icehook.dot" and the eXtyles tab does not display, you may need to delete Normal.dotm again (also with Word closed).
If these steps still do not resolve the issue, please contact Inera.
