Calling all JATS folks and accessibility enthusiasts! If you missed JATS-Con 2022, don’t worry: proceedings are now available via NCBI Bookshelf.
This year’s JATS-Con began with an accessibility double-header featuring Inera and Typefi. After Chandi Perera of Typefi set the stage with a general discussion of the what and why of accessibility, Inera’s Joni Dames, Senior Solution Architect, set out to answer some deceptively simple questions about accessibility:
- What are the obstacles preventing people from accessing your content?
- Are you creating content that people can interact with easily?
- Is your content more than just 508-compliant?
… and explained how to stop worrying and incorporate some basic steps in your workflow that will help you make sure your content is accessible to everyone.
You can read Joni’s paper, “An incomplete guide to creating accessible content,” in the JATS-Con 2022 Proceedings, where you’ll also find a link to her slides.
